Academic Progress Notice & Pause Standards and Good Standing
Have an Academic Progress Notice or Pause Hold (formerly probation)?
Are you sure? Check if you have an Academic Progress Notice or Pause hold.
Which Type?
There are two types of Academic Notice & Pause holds.
Academic Notice: A student who has attempted at least 18 quarter units as shown by the official academic record is placed on academic Academic Notice if the student has earned a grade point average below 2.0 in all units which were graded on the basis of the grading system.
Progress Notice: A student who has enrolled in a total of at least 18 quarter units as shown by the official academic record is placed on Progress Notice if the percentage of all units in which a student has enrolled and for which entries of "F," "W," "I," "NP" and "NC" are recorded reaches or exceeds fifty percent (50 percent).
Standards for Pause (formerly Dismissal)
A student who is on Academic Notice is subject to Pause (formerly dismissal) if the student earned a cumulative grade point average of less than 2.0 in all units attempted in each of 5 consecutive quarters which were graded on the basis of the grading system.
A student who has been placed on Progress Notice shall be subject to Pause if the percentage of units in which the student has been enrolled for which entries of "F," "W," "I," "NP" and "NC" are recorded in at least 5 consecutive quarters reaches or exceeds fifty percent (50%).
The governing board of a district shall adopt and publish procedures and conditions for Pause and appeal of Pause and request for reinstatement.
Back in Good Standing = Academic Progress Notice & Pause Status Removed!
A student on Academic Notice for a grade point deficiency shall be removed from probation when the student's accumulated grade point average is 2.0 or higher.
A student on Progress Notice because of an excess of units for which entries of "F," "W," "I," "NP" and "NC" recorded shall be removed from probation when the percentage of units in this category drops below fifty percent (50%).
Once a student has returned to good academic standing, their Academic Progress Notce & Pause status is removed. However, counseling support and our college resources are still here to support as students continue their academic journey at Foothill College!
