Enrollment Steps for Priority Registration

See the Academic Calendar for priority enrollment registration dates for the current quarter.

If you have applied for admission, go to MyPortal to check YOUR registration date.

New Students

Follow Steps 1-6 to Receive Priority Registration

  • You'll need to complete steps 1-3 when filling out the Foothill College online application.
  • You can complete steps 4-6 by following options listed for each.

1. Apply

  • Apply for admission.
  • Do this as early as possible, even if you think you may attend another school.
  • Keep all your options open, and keep your priority registration if you choose Foothill.

2. Declare a major - not "Undecided"

  • Check out our Programs & Courses options to decide which major you want to declare on your admission application.
  • Note: You can easily update your major in MyPortal after you've applied for admission.

3. Select a goal of transfer, degree or certificate

4. Meet Assessment requirements

  •  Starting Fall 2018, Foothill will be using high school transcripts as the primary mode for Assessment. If high school transcripts are unavilable, students will assess with the standard Assessment Exam. For further details, please visit the Foothill College Assessment website.

5. Complete orientation

You have two options to meet this requirement.

  1. Take your Orientation online (Log in to MyPortal > Click the ‘Students’ tab > Click the Go2Orientation link)
  2. Take a Counseling 5 class (See Schedule of Classes for CNSL 5 dates and time)

6. Create an *educational plan

*In order to fulfill this requirement, your student education plan (SEP) must include the term in which you plan to register.

Priority Enrollment Order

In accordance with new state and local regulations, students will be assigned registration dates in the following order. (See the academic calendar for actual priority registration dates for upcoming or current term.)

Note asterisks below: *In order to fulfill this requirement, the student education plan (SEP) must include the term in which the student plans to register.


1. Veterans, Foster Youth, CalWORKs, DSPS, EOPS

  • Completed assessment, completed orientation, created an *education plan
  • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate
  • Declared a major

 2. Student athletes

  • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate
  • Declared major
  • Completed assessment, completed orientation, created an *education plan

 3. Continuing students (including full-time and part-time students)

  • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate
  • Declared major
  • Completed assessment, completed orientation, created an *education plan

4. First time college students who have

  • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate
  • Completed assessment, orientation, created an *education plan
  • Declared a major

5. Non-Matriculated Student

  • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate
  • Declared a major

6. Returning students and New Transfer Students to Foothill College (from other colleges)

  • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate
  • Declared a major

7. All Other

8. Dually-enrolled high school students
