Probation & Disqualification

Probation Standards, Dismissal, and Good Standing

Have a Probation Hold?

Are you sure?  Check if you have a probation hold. [needs link]

Contact Us: Please email us at: fhprobation@fhda.edu.

There are Two Types of Probation.

Academic Probation: You will be placed on academic probation if you have attempted at least 18 quarter units and your cumulative GPA is below 2.0 in all units that receive letter grades.

Progress Probation: You will be placed on progress probation if you have enrolled in at least 18 quarter units and 50% or more of the units you’ve attempted result in grades of F, W, I, NP, or NC.

If you have been placed on academic and/or progress probation, you will receive an email with your probation level and your next steps to have the hold removed from your student account.

Standards for Dismissal

If you are on academic probation, you may be dismissed if your cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 in all graded units for five consecutive quarters.

If you are on progress probation, you may be dismissed if 50% or more of the units you attempt result in grades of F, W, I, NP, or NC for five consecutive quarters.

The district’s governing board establishes and publishes the official procedures, conditions, and timelines for dismissal, appeal, and requests for reinstatement. Be sure to review those policies and connect with a counselor if you need guidance on your options.

Back in Good Standing = Probation Status Removed!

If you are on academic probation due to a low GPA, you will be removed from probation once your cumulative grade point average reaches 2.0 or higher.

If you are on progress probation because more than half of the units you’ve attempted resulted in grades of F, W, I, NP, or NC, you will be removed from probation once those grades make up less than 50% of your total attempted units.

After you return to good academic standing, your probation status will be cleared. Even so, counseling and other college resources remain available to support you as you continue your academic journey at Foothill College.
