UC Transfer

Transfer to a UC

The University of California system offers many transfer opportunities for community college students. Foothill students can prepare by building a transfer plan early, using UC TAP, and getting support with PIQs and the application.

What You’ll Find Here

This page can help students:

  • Learn how UC transfer works

  • Create a UC Transfer Admission Planner (UC TAP)

  • Understand TAG options

  • Prepare UC Personal Insight Questions

  • Review deadlines and next steps

  • Connect with support and resources

Students applying to UC campuses should create a UC Transfer Admission Planner (UC TAP) account and enter past, current, and planned coursework. UC TAP is also used for TAG submission.

Six UC campuses offer Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) to California community college students:

  • UC Davis

  • UC Irvine

  • UC Merced

  • UC Riverside

  • UC Santa Barbara

  • UC Santa Cruz

Students may submit a TAG to only one campus and must meet campus-specific requirements. UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UC San Diego do not participate in TAG.

UC TAG submission for Fall 2026:
Sept. 1–30, 2025

UC application for Fall 2026:
Oct. 1–Dec. 1, 2025

Students may begin working on the UC application before October.

Students should begin drafting PIQs during the summer before applying. Support is available through Foothill counselors and the Writing and Language Center.

Meet with a counselor if you need help with:

  • TAG eligibility

  • A transfer education plan

  • Course selection

  • UC application review

  • PIQ support

  • Major preparation

After applying, some universities may require students to return to their application or portal in January to update grades and confirm planned courses. Students should check each campus portal carefully for follow-up steps.
