Ben Armerding is fascinated by world travel and has spent time in China, Mexico, Ethiopia, Mongolia, France, and Germany and once taught an ESL course in Kazakhstan. As a college student, he also studied abroad in Swansea, Wales, and saw as much of the UK as he could possibly squeeze into nine months. He can't wait to return to London to rediscover the city with students. He holds a bachelor's degree in English literature and a master's degree in English composition from San Francisco State University and participated in a Stanford Fellowship in Global Education through their EPIC program. He has two young kids, and when he and his wife aren't taking them on hikes or gardening in the yard, they've started brainwashing them with episodes of Dr. Who to prepare them for the UK.

Milissa Carey has taught Music and Theatre at Foothill College since 2003. Courses ranging from Theatre Appreciation to Music of American Cultures to Musical Theatre to Musical Theatre classes to World Music reflect her love of the arts around the world. She was a co-lead on a Global Experiential Learning to Florence and to London. Milissa’s love of travel has included Europe as well as many non-Western countries in Southeast Asia and North Africa. She can't wait to be sharing the amazing city of London and all it has to offer with students—a chance at discovery for all!

At Foothill, Milissa has directed 25 productions for the award-winning Foothill Music Theatre. In addition to her Bay Area directing credits, she is also a member of Actor’s Equity and has performed with many Bay Area companies and toured the US and Canada on the 25th Anniversary Broadway National Tour of Evita under the direction of Hal Prince. 

She has taught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the prestigious A.C.T. M.F.A. program. Her training includes a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, a Master of Music from the University of Southern California, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, and the American Conservatory of Theatre in San Francisco.

• English Composition and Literature

  ENGL 34C Literature Into Film - 4 Units - IGETCS Areas 3A Arts and 3B Humanities

  London is an exceptional backdrop for the silver screen, and many great works of literature have made it into adaptations in the city. Students will read the books, see where they take place, and view directors’ interpretations of the stories as films as a way to immerse themselves in a diverse range of experiences in the city. Readings and adaptations will include Shakespeare, V for Vendetta, and Baby Reindeer or others. 

• Theatre

  THTR1, Introduction to Theatre, 4 units - Area 3 Humanities - UC/CSU Transferable

  Live theatre in an electronic age! From the vibrant theater scene of the West End to Shakespeare Glove to the National Theatre Complex on the South Bank, London is the ideal city for an introduction to theater.  With an abundance of diverse theater activities at every level, students will be directly exposed to a wide array of storytelling with the city of London itself as the stage. Students will translate what they are learning into creating small projects of their own. Backstage tours will bring the technical elements to life, and visits to RADA or LAMDA will give students a chance to observe and interact with young actors in training. In the immortal words of the bard himself –"All the world’s a stage!"

  Fulfill the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) as a Londoner! Many students complete these requirements while studying abroad. Our IGETC courses fulfill lower-division general education requirements for transfer to California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC).

Program Cost, Fees, and Deadlines

1. $4,995 per student (20–25 participants)
2. $4,845 per student (26 or more participants)

Payment Schedule

• $395 due upon acceptance
• $2,100 due by Dec. 11, 2026
• $2,500 due by March 17, 2027

A $150 rebate will be issued if enrollment thresholds are reached.

Cancellation Policy

If a student cancels:

• On or before Dec. 11, 2026: $150 cancellation fee.
• Dec. 12, 2026 – March 16, 2027: $1,250 cancellation fee.
• March 17, 2027 – April 17, 2027: $2,500 cancellation fee.
• On or after April 17, 2027: No refund will be issued.

If the District or Latitudes cancel:

• A full refund will be provided.

The following are included in program fees:

• 25 nights of accommodation in University College London (UCL) dorms.
• Twin share with common bathrooms and common kitchen facilities.
• Group Welcome Dinner and Farewell Dinner.
• Basic emergency medical and emergency evacuation insurance.
• Oyster Card with £120 credit.
• Arrival and departure transfers for the group flight between Heathrow Airport and the university dorms.
• Classroom space at UCL per the program itinerary.
• Entry fees and activities:

The following are not included in program fees and will be additional costs:

• Flights to and from London.
• Foothill registration/tuition fees and textbooks.
• Personal spending money for individual activities and travel.
• All meals (not including welcome/goodbye dinners).
• Single room supplement with private bathroom: $800 (subject to availability).
• Trip cancellation insurance.
• Anything not listed as included in the program itinerary.

This program is open to adults of all ages and experiences who:

• Are able to travel abroad (hold/able to obtain a passport).
• 18 years or older.
• Will enroll in a minimum of 8 units of the coursework offered as part of the Foothill College London Program (ENGL 34C + THTR 1).
• Are ready for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure!
