How to fund your experience abroad!

We know that paying for a global experiential learning/study abroad program is likely one of the biggest barriers you face. We are here to help!

An investment in YOU!

First, we would like to encourage you to view this opportunity as an investment in YOU and YOUR FUTURE. There is quite a bit of evidence to suggest that students who go on study abroad programs end up having greater long-term success in the following ways:

• greater chances of completing their educational goals (transfer plans and/or degrees)
• greater employability and earnings potential (you get 21st-century skills employers tend to love!) 

Plus, of course, you make new friends and create memories that often last a lifetime. 

Using Financial Aid  You can use your financial aid (grants and loans) for Global Experiential Learning programs at Foothill College! We recommend that all students needing some financial assistance apply for financial aid through Foothill College, or if you are a recipient of financial aid at another college, you will want to fill out an agreement to share information with Foothill College (see your financial aid counselor at your home school for help). If you haven't done this already, you will need to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You will need to indicate Foothill College as a recipient of your FAFSA. We strongly encourage you to reach out to one of our financial aid counselors for assistance. For more information, visit this page: Foothill Financial Aid. If you currently receive financial aid, it is possible that your offer could be adjusted to help you fund the program fees by adding this program to your cost of attendance. Every situation is different, so we recommend you meet with a financial aid counselor right away!

Scholarships  

We also recommend that you apply for all scholarships you are eligible for. We will share the study-abroad-specific ones we find here (and update this list as we become aware of new ones), and we also encourage you to seek out additional ones. Apply for everything! Let us know if you need any information from us for the external scholarship applications. Internal Global Experiential Learning Scholarships through Foothill College

The Foothill Global Experiential Learning (GEL) Office funds several scholarship opportunities ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for currently enrolled Foothill students. Please look for these opportunities in AcademicWorks and apply by logging into AcademicWorks through My Portal.
