Why Study in Buenos AiresBuenos Aires, the vibrant capital of Argentina, is a captivating destination for a quarter-long study abroad program! Often referred to as the "Paris of the South," Buenos Aires is a city shaped by waves of global migration and colonial legacy. It offers a unique urban setting where students have the rare opportunity to examine how colonial power structures and 19th-century industrialization transformed the landscape, creating a modern metropolis that remains a global hub for social movements and the arts. |
Program Dates
- Friday, April 16, 2027: Program starts in Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Friday, June 18, 2027: Program in Argentina ends (students must depart homestays)
- Monday, April 5–Friday, June 25, 2027: Foothill College's spring quarter dates. Some coursework may start online and/or on campus prior to the program in-country and conclude after departure
Program Theme & DescriptionEmpires and Colonies – Past and PresentAre humans imperialist by nature? From the Inca Empire's expansion across the continent of South America to Spain's colonization, Argentina has long been shaped by imperial forces. Living in Buenos Aires we can address questions about power and legacy playing out in real time as the Post-WWII global order collapses and Argentina undergoes a massive economic experiment. Combining service learning with anthropology and economics courses, we will be exploring these forces, meeting scholars, taking field trips, and immersing ourselves in the rich culture of this remarkable country. ¡Vámonos ya! |
