• Description: Fourth of seven courses paralleling content taught in courses in the Respiratory Therapy Program. Designed to develop and reinforce concepts taught in the concurrent lecture and laboratory sessions of the program, with a focus on modes of ventilation, waveform recognition, clinical application, lung recruitment techniques, and adjunct therapies for ventilated patients. Media materials, simulations, and videos will provide alternative learning resources to accommodate diverse learning styles. Intended for students in the Respiratory Therapy Program; enrollment is limited to students accepted in the program.

Department Note:

• Description: Develops and enhances the concepts and skills essential to meet the needs of patients placed on invasive and non-invasive ventilation. Overview of modes of ventilation, humidification, and medication delivery. Includes laboratory exercises of commonly used ventilators and patient-ventilator simulations. New ventilators and state-of-the-art theories on ventilation are presented based upon current research. Intended for students in the Respiratory Therapy Program; enrollment is limited to students accepted in the program.

• Description: Introduction to various hospital departments, focusing on the practical implementation of respiratory therapy techniques. Students will learn to analyze fundamental diagnostic information and its relevance to treatment strategies in the clinical setting. Intended for students in the Respiratory Therapy Program; enrollment is limited to students accepted in the program.

• Description: Respiratory care capstone course with a focus on an area related to case management, clinical specialty, pulmonary diagnostics, interventional pulmonology, and/or research. Students work with faculty to choose, develop, and complete a project in the chosen area of interest. • Description: Advanced study of tests and procedures used to diagnose cardiopulmonary abnormalities and disease. Emphasis will be placed on the evaluation and interpretation of results.
