VA Educational Benefits

Have you been awarded VA Benefits? Do you want to utilize your VA educational benefits? You came to the right place. Select the benefit you will use and a list of required steps and documents will be provided to submit a request to start the process of using your benefits.

In compliance with Title 38 USC 3679, Foothill College will not impose any penalty, fee, or denial of access to services as a result of delayed disbursement of funds from the VA under chapter 31 or 33. 

Verify Enrollment 

The Department of Veterans Affairs will require all Post 9/11 GI Bill® recipients to verify their enrollment every month. Visit the VA Verification of Enrollment webpage for information about what the new requirement means for you! Options will include Opt-in for text verification or call 1-888-442-4551 to verify.

Montgomery & GI Bill®

Using Montgomery & GI Bill® Click on the benefit that you are eligible for and next steps on how to start using your benefits with Foothill College.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible.

Post 911 GI Bill

The Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (MGIB-AD) can help you pay for education and training programs. If you’ve served at least 2 years on active duty, find out if you qualify for the MGIB-AD program.

Veterans who have been evaluated and given a disability rating qualifying them for the Veteran Readiness & Employment (Chapter 31) must contact the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Vocational Rehabilitation in Oakland, CA.

    • (Authorization given by VRE Caseworker).

The Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) program offers up to 36 months of education and training benefits. If you’re a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard, you may be eligible for this benefit. Find out if you qualify.

Dependent VA Benefits

Learn about the Survivors' and Dependent's Educational Assistance program.  If you’re the child or spouse of a Veteran or service member who has died, is captured or missing, or has disabilities, you may be able to get help paying for school or job training through the DEA program—also called Chapter 35. Find out if you’re eligible for this benefit.

  • In-state fees: Proof of CA. residency or orders (required).

If the DoD approves the Transfer of Entitlement (TOE), your spouse or dependent children can apply for up to 36 months of benefits, and may be able to get money for tuition, housing, books and supplies.

Learn about the California State Calvet Fee Waiver program.  If you’re the child or spouse of a Veteran or service member who has died, is captured or missing, or has disabilities, you may be able to get help paying for school or job training through the Calvet Fee Waiver. Find out if you’re eligible for this benefit.

If you have been approved under the Calvet Fee Waiver state program and are applying to use your eligibility, use the Calvet Fee Waiver request to start the process of using Calvet Fee Waiver benefits for the current academic year.
