INTRODUCTION TO DIRECTING

- Description: This course is a comprehensive overview of the breadth of responsibilities expected of a theatrical director and how to prepare for said responsibilities, including: conceptualizing a production; working collaboratively as dictated by industry norms; play selection; auditions and methods of casting; preparation of the play script; building the rehearsal and production schedule; fundamentals of composition, movement, stage business, and characterization, as applied to the directing of plays.

- Description: This course is a continuation of THTR 21A, continuing study of the theory and practice of creating and using scenery and properties, including more specialized vocabulary and additional tools, materials, and techniques used in the creation of scenery and properties for the stage, such as alternative scenic materials, basic electrical for illuminated props and scenery, and basic digital design and fabrication. TECHNICAL THEATRE IN PRODUCTION I NONCREDIT

- Description: Students will work as crew for a Theatre Arts Department production, leading to public performances. In consultation with faculty, students may choose to work in areas such as set construction, scenic art, properties, costume, makeup, wardrobe, lighting, projections, sound, front of house, running crew, or other production functions as required for the show. No experience is necessary to succeed in this course.

In consultation with faculty, students may choose to work in areas such as stage management, house management, scene design, lighting design, projections design, sound design, costume design, makeup design, technical director, lead carpenter, lead rigger, paint charge, wardrobe supervisor, or lead electrician. This course is for advanced Theatre Arts students and practitioners who are ready to take on a position of significant responsibility on a Theatre Arts Department production.
