GLST 1
INTRODUCTION TO GLOBAL STUDIES

- Description: This course provides students with an introduction to Global Studies. Students are offered an interdisciplinary view of globalization and its impacts through an examination of social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental contexts. The course emphasizes the interdependence and connections between global institutions, populations, and individuals.
- Prerequisite:
- Corequisite:
- Advisory: Advisory: Demonstrated proficiency in English by placement via multiple measures OR through an equivalent placement process OR completion of ESLL 125 & ESLL 249; not open to students with credit in GLST 1H or SOSC 1.
- Repeatability: Not Repeatable.
- Hours: 4 hours lecture per week. 48 hours total per quarter.

HONORS INTRODUCTION TO GLOBAL STUDIES

- Description: This course provides students with an introduction to Global Studies. Students are offered an interdisciplinary view of globalization and its impacts through an examination of social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental contexts. The course emphasizes the interdependence and connections between global institutions, populations, and individuals. As an honors course, students will have more complex research assignments, student-led class lectures and discussions, and a focus on writing and reading skills.

GLOBAL ISSUES

- Description: This course offers an interdisciplinary introduction to contemporary global issues confronting the global community, such as energy and resource depletion, food scarcity, war and terrorism, human rights, economic interdependence, international inequality, labor exploitation, and migration. The role of global institutions and global citizenship will be considered as they relate to global issues.
