- Description: Study of geospatial technology, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), cartography, remote sensing, and spatial analysis. Application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) science to spatial data management. Assessment of vector and raster systems, scale, resolution, map projection, coordinate systems and georeferencing. Identification and acquisition of spatial data.

INTRODUCTION TO EARTH SCIENCE

- Description: An introduction to the essentials of Earth science, including the structure of the Earth and its internal processes, the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, and solar system. This course focuses on the interactions between physical and chemical systems of the Earth, such as the plate tectonics, the rock cycle, the hydrologic cycle, weather, and climate. Topics are aligned with the California State Science Standards for K-12 and will prepare pre-service teachers to teach these subjects.

GEOGRAPHY FIELD STUDIES: HUMAN & URBAN SYSTEMS

- Description: Examine how human societies adapt to their environments, shape patterns of settlement, and drive regional development. The course explores the dynamic relationship between culture, place, and environment, highlighting how human-environment interactions shape landscapes, and how societies can adapt, organize, and pursue sustainable development. Field studies involve using the tools and perspective of geography to observe, measure, and evaluate the landscape. This includes the ability to describe and interpret spatial patterns, the ability to collect and analyze spatial and non-spatial data, and the ability to draw valid conclusions as to the processes responsible for those patterns. This course will have elements of both human and physical geography and a focus on human-environment relations.
