- Description: The techniques and practice of expository and argumentative writing based on critical reading and thinking. Analytical reading of authentic, college-level expository and persuasive texts intended for a native speaker audience, chosen to represent a broad spectrum of opinions and ideas, writing styles, and cultural experiences and perspectives. Fulfills the Foothill College reading and composition requirement for the AA/AS degree.
- Prerequisite: Appropriate placement through Foothill College's placement model (i.e., guided self-placement) or successful completion of Level 5 courses: ESLL 125 & ESLL 249.

COMPOSITION & READING INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS

- Description: Designed to assist second language learners in developing the reading and writing skills and strategies required for success in ENGL C1000 and similar transfer-level, writing-intensive courses. Reinforcement of reading skills and strategies as they pertain to comprehension of content and critical analysis of rhetorical elements. Development of critical thinking skills and strategies related to the process of expository and argumentative writing. Application of essay revision and editing skills to include appropriate content, coherence, sentence efficiency and variety, and grammatical accuracy.
