Service Learning Requirements for Honors Students

Service Learning Requirements

Service learning can take many different forms. You can volunteer to serve meals at a shelter or help organize informational sessions on social justice issues, but you might also consider things you do at work or at home as service leadership. For example, if you take a parent or grandparent to chemo or dialysis sessions, that also counts as service learning.

We want you to develop soft skills in addition to academic ones. We want you to be able to collaborate and work with others in addition to developing empathy and compassion.

In order to complete the service learning requirement, please fill out the following form:

You will be required to write a short description (500 words) of your service, including what knowledge, skills, experience, personal growth, enjoyment, or anything else you gained from the experience. Avoid general descriptions. Describe how you were before doing this service to where you are now. Be honest and genuine. Remember: Information you include may be helpful for future letters of recommendation. Your description should reflect the time and effort that you put into writing this.

Please submit your Service Learning when you petition for your Distinguished Honors Scholar. Please keep a copy of this form for your own records.
