Apprenticeship Program
Prerequisites & Requirements
California Department of Apprenticeship Standards
Admission to apprenticeship classes at Foothill are limited to apprentices registered with the California Department of Apprenticeships Standards.
This is due to the unique relationship between on-the-job and classroom apprenticeship training. This limitation is authorized by the California Labor Code, Section 3074.3.
Eligibility
Each apprenticeship has different eligibility and admission requirements.
However, to be eligible, generally you must:
- be at least age 18
- able to perform the work of the trade
- present verification that you have completed a high school or GED diploma.
You must also demonstrate the ability to read, write and speak English in order to comprehend instruction in related training classes and ensure safety on the job.
The selection, employment and training of apprentices by local apprenticeship training committees is without discrimination based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation or marital status.
Journeyman and craftsman are terms used to identify levels of competency, not gender. Women who complete the apprenticeship program are proud of their journeyman status in the industry.
Non-Discrimination Statement
Foothill College does not discriminate against any person in the provision of any program or service based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, physical disability or mental disability.
Coordination of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibiting sex discrimination, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 governing accessibility is the responsibility of the Foothill ADA/504 Coordinator, Rose Myers, (650) 949-7343, room 8103.
Limited English Skills Policy

This notice is a requirement of the Guidelines for Elimination of Discrimination & Denial of Services on the Basis of Race, Color, National Origin, Sex & Handicap (Federal Register; Vol. 44, No. 56).
