Prerequisites & Requirements
Admission to apprenticeship classes at Foothill College is limited to apprentices who are officially registered with the California Department of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS). This requirement reflects the unique partnership between on-the-job training and classroom instruction that defines a registered apprenticeship program. The limitation is authorized by California Labor Code Section 3074.3.
Apprenticeship EligibilityEach apprenticeship trade has its own admission requirements, which may vary by program or union sponsor. In general, applicants must:
Selection, employment, and training decisions made by local apprenticeship committees are conducted without discrimination based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or marital status. Journeyman and craftsman describe levels of skill and competency, not gender. Women who complete their apprenticeships proudly hold journeyman status in their respective trades. |
