Student Life in TTW

More Than Classes

TTW is not just about coursework. It is about learning how to be a college student, a community member, a future employee, and a more independent adult.

Students in TTW build skills in class, but they also build confidence through daily life on campus and through shared experiences with their cohort.

A Real College Experience

TTW students are fully enrolled Foothill students. They are part of the college community, not set apart from it.

Students may:

  • Explore campus
  • Participate in clubs and student life
  • Eat in the dining hall
  • Take additional classes when appropriate
  • Engage with peers outside the TTW cohort
  • Learn how to navigate a real college environment with support

Learning by Doing

TTW includes practical, hands-on learning throughout the year.

Students may practice:

  • Mock shopping and budgeting
  • Public transit navigation
  • Campus work experience
  • Technology and robotics projects
  • Communication in group settings
  • Real-world problem solving

TTW is not the final destination. It is the launchpad.

Community Matters

One of the most important parts of TTW is the cohort model.

Students move through the year alongside peers who are also working on growth, independence, and transition into adulthood. That creates opportunities for friendship, teamwork, accountability, and shared experience.

Many students arrive unsure of themselves. Over time, they often become more confident, more connected, and more comfortable taking up space in a college environment.

A Year of Growth

TTW is structured, but it is also deeply human.

Students make mistakes. They learn new habits. They discover what support helps them. They practice self-advocacy. They become more aware of their strengths and their needs.

That is the real work of transition, and that is what TTW is built to support.

What Comes Next

By the end of the year, students are better prepared to take their next step, whether that means:

  • College coursework
  • Employment
  • Job training
  • A residential transition program
  • A more independent life in general

TTW is not the final destination. It is the launchpad.
