Student Spotlight
Madhav ShuklaI am a 2nd-year Computer Science major and co-president of the Space Science club. My academic interests are primarily in AI and Computer Science and their applications, specifically in high impact fields such as Space Science and Economics. My strongest technical experience is conducting research with a professor at Claremont McKenna College, where we are developing a deep-learning model that analyzes the collective movement of an amazonian caterpillar species (Amazonian Lepidoptera larvae). This year, Space Science club is building a CubeSat (a miniaturized, low-cost satellite) capable of capturing satellite imagery. The goal for this project is to give students hands-on experience with satellite development from planning to testing. This project will especially help students become more competitive for internships in this field. ETI has helped significantly by providing mentorship, support, and even the facilities needed for our project, and without them, this club project would not be possible.
Space sciences explore the universe beyond Earth and the technologies that enable us to study, navigate, and explore it. This interdisciplinary field combines astronomy, planetary science, physics, engineering, robotics, remote sensing, and aerospace technologies to investigate the origins of the universe, the evolution of planets, and the potential for life beyond Earth. From designing satellites and autonomous spacecraft to analyzing data from telescopes and planetary missions, advances in space sciences are expanding our understanding of the cosmos while driving innovations that benefit life on Earth. As new technologies make space more accessible than ever before, this rapidly evolving field is inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers to push the boundaries of discovery.
