As members of the Asian Pacific American Network, known as APAN, at Foothill College, we understand the complexities of racial politics - in higher education and in society at large. We understand that racial tensions erupt within structures that privilege whiteness; that these tensions have occurred between Asians and other minoritized groups; and that being Asian does not preclude us from internalized racism, racism toward other groups, nor abuse of power.
With that in mind, we were troubled to learn of the behaviors of Trustee Gilbert Wong as described in the independent investigative report and in the panel determination.
