APAN Letter of SupportApril 3, 2023 As members of the Asian Pacific American Network, known as APAN, at Foothill College, we understand the complexities of racial politics - in higher education and in society at large. We understand that racial tensions erupt within structures that privilege whiteness; that these tensions have occurred between Asians and other minoritized groups; and that being Asian does not preclude us from internalized racism, racism toward other groups, nor abuse of power. With that in mind, we were troubled to learn of the behaviors of Trustee Gilbert Wong as described in the independent investigative report and in the panel determination. |
APAN Statement on Violence and Racism Directed Towards Asians and Asian AmericansApril 5, 2021 We, the members of Foothill College’s Asian/Pacific American Network, are heartbroken, frustrated, and enraged with the increased anti-Asian racism taking place in our country. The murders that took place in Atlanta were just one example of the escalated attacks on the Asian and Asian American community since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. These attacks, both verbal and physical, have taken place all over the nation, including the San Francisco Bay Area.
