Faculty Spotlight

Michelle Schukraft has been an Athletic Trainer at Foothill College since 2006.  She graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training in 2004.  Before coming to Foothill College Michelle worked at Evergreen Valley High School and with the San Jose Stealth the Professional Lacrosse Team in San Jose .  In 2013, she graduated with honors from Fresno Pacific University, receiving a Master's Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training.  Michelle has been a Preceptor for the San Jose State Undergraduate Athletic Training Program since 2006, and enjoys mentoring future students in the field of Athletic Training.  In her spare time Michelle enjoys returning to her home town of Durham, CA where her family currently resides or hanging out with her dog.

Hayes Salancy is native to the Pittsburgh, PA area and moved to California to pursue his career in Athletic Training. He graduated Waynesburg University with a BS in both Athletic Training and Exercise Science while participating on the Yellow Jacket football team. Hayes has worked as a football strength and conditioning intern and graduate teaching assistant to both Mississippi State and University of Texas. Since graduating with an MS Kinesiology – Exercise Physiology from Mississippi State, he has worked at several high schools, in private sector as an athletic performance coach, with minor league baseball, and in the field of ergonomics as an injury prevention specialist. 

In graduate school, Hayes was inspired by his advisor, professors, and fellow doctoral candidates to always strive to find solutions to tough questions. He is interested in and actively researches elite human performance, supplementation on athletic performance/recovery parameters, environmental physiology, protective equipment R&D, and innovative strength and conditioning methods.

Hayes resides in Santa Clara, CA, enjoys playing guitar around a campfire, and the feeling of sitting down after a long day’s work. He hopes to bring his passion for rehabilitation and performance training to Foothill’s sports programs and community. He is very grateful to all the family, friends, classmates, professors, and coworkers that have supported his journey.
