AS to BS-DH

Welcome to the AS to BS-DH Program!

Our fully online program is currently accepting applications for Winter 2020.

Introduction

Are You a Licensed Dental Hygienist?

Our program is for you. If you are a licensed dental hygienist (RDH or RDHAP) from an accredited two-year community college dental hygiene program, our B.S. completion degree will broaden your educational experiences. We provide an in-depth curriculum, including, but not limited to: developing a capstone project and developing skills in critical thinking, writing, communication, cultural sensitivity, conducting research, and reporting. The dental hygiene degree completion program will expand your professional opportunities beyond the private dental office and promote career advancement in management, education, public health, and research. We prepare dental hygienists to interact effectively with other health professionals in a competent, collaborative, and ethical manner.

The BS-DH degree will require completion of a minimum of 189 quarter units (125 semester units), including general education course work in alignment with CSU or IGETC pattern general education.

Approx. Cost of Program tuition: $4000 for CA residents and $9700 for non-residents (excluded additional costs for textbooks)

  • Minimum cumulative college GPA 2.75
  • Licensed in good standing as a Registered Dental Hygienist

GE Requirements

Completion of the CSU GE-Breadth or IGETC is required for the Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene. Completion of the Associate Degree GE pattern does not complete the GE requirements for the Bachelor of Sciences degree. Students with AS in Dental Hygiene will need to take a few additional GE courses for the Bachelor of Science degree. In general, students who have completed an AS degree in Dental Hygiene still need to take some Humanities courses and Statistics to complete either the CSU or IGETC pattern of general education.

If you are missing  a few courses, those can be taken concurrenly with the program courses. But if you are missing more than a few, it is advisable that students complete them prior to applying for our program. Statistics must be taken prior to enrolling IDS300.

Please refer to Foothill College counseling department website under General Education for more details about CSU or IGETC GE (https://foothill.edu/counseling/ge.html).

Please complete the GE Worksheet for BS in Dental Hygiene  and attach it to your application.

Check this website to schedule appointment with couselors https://foothill.edu/counseling/counselappt.html. Counseling appointments are also available via phone.

General education may be transferred from accredited colleges but must be equivalent to Foothill College courses and transferrable to CSU or UC. We recommend meeting with a counselor from the school you graduated from to see if you have completed all the required general education. All required general education must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher before the bachelor’s degree can be granted.

        • Discuss the reasons you are interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.

        • What are your particular interests in health care and dental hygiene?
        • The bachelor’s degree completion program requires a scholarly capstone project, give two examples of areas that you would be interested in researching, developing, implementing and evaluating for your project. Give insight into why these areas are important to you.

      • Completed GE Worksheet for BS in Dental Hygiene (found above)
