Most Classes Held Virtually for Spring and Summer

For the safety of our Foothill students, faculty and staff and all their families, most spring and summer classes will be virtual—with a limited exception for select Allied Health labs as circumstances allow and Athletic conditioning.

Loaner Computer Update

The Foothill Library provides calculators and Chromebooks for quarterly check out  as availability allows.

If you need support for your technology needs, please complete the Emergency Relief Request form.

Also, you can apply to receive a free, refurbished computer through through the Occupational Training Institute's CompTechS program. Donated computers are refurbished by CompTechS interns and staff, before they are given free to eligible students. Find details and an application form at the CompTechS website.

What is a virtual class?

Virtual Campus

In a virtual campus, instruction and support services are conducted remotely, using various technologies for synchronous and asynchronous communication and activities. The goal of the virtual campus is to provide instruction and support services while maintaining physical distance between individuals (students, faculty, staff).


Teaching activities are carried out online using various technologies, including learning management systems, videoconferencing, phone, and email. A virtual learning environment, like a physical one, utilizes effective practices for pacing, scaffolding, collaboration, and interaction. This can be achieved through synchronous as well as asynchronous activities.

Academic & Student Support Services

Like instruction, academic and student support services are carried out online using various technologies, including phone, videoconferencing, and email. Just as in a physical campus, the goal is to provide students equitable access to services, through both drop-in and appointment-based methods. Like instruction, this can be achieved through synchronous as well as asynchronous activities.

Asynchronous Delivery

Instruction or service is conducted between faculty/support staff and students outside the constraints of time and place. Students are allowed to choose the time of day or days on which to complete assignments or engage with support services within a class or service schedule.

Synchronous Delivery

Instruction or service is conducted between the faculty/support staff in real-time, with participants engaging in learning and communication at the same time, according to a set schedule.

Campus leaders and your instructors will use email to communicate important updates and instructions, so please check your email regularly.

If you cannot find answers to your questions in email or Canvas, contact your instructor directly. Include these details, no matter what:

  • Put the course name in the subject line.
  • Introduce yourself with your full name.
  • Make your question(s) as specific as possible.
  • Tell your instructor what you tried before contacting her/him

Library Services


Until further notice, the library building will be closed to students; however, our reference services and our extensive collection of digital resources are available online.  


As always, our collection of online resources, including databases, success tools, and Lib Guides, are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We are working on ways to provide digital access to Reserves materials or alternate sources. Please check back for information updates. 


While the shelter-in-place order is in effect, we advise students to hold on to any library books/materials currently in your possession. All overdue fines and fees are suspended. 

If students are leaving the area and have no plans to return, even after the shelter-in-place is lifted, they can return their library materials to the book drop at the Sunnyvale Center at 1070 Innovation Way, Sunnyvale, CA 94089.


Starting Spring 2021, the Foothill Library has moved our entire textbook collection to the Foothill Sunnyvale Center (1070 Innovation Way, Sunnyvale, CA 94089) and we are making them available for students to pick up. Please see the Library website for dates of pick up.

The location of the book drop is outside the building, on the north end. Look for signage near the parking lot with the ambulance nearby.

Virtual Tutoring

STEM Center, Teaching & Learning Center, and Pass the Torch Zoom tutoring services is available for Spring 2020 starting April 13.

Assessment & Accommodated Testing

Testing Center staff will be available via email to answer any questions regarding accommodated testing and assessment placement.

Students will continue to be placed by high school transcripts evaluation, guided self-placement, and assessment test.

All accommodated testing will be virtual. Students who are unable to access certain accommodations will need to contact the Disability Resource Center or Testing and Assessment Center for assistance.

Food Pantry

The Food Pantry team is doing everything we can to develop alternative solutions of support for all Food Pantry registered students, including e-cards for groceries.

Health Services

Due to the Santa Clara County Shelter in Place order, the Student Health Center physical office will be closed until further notice. However, students will continue to be served through TeleMedicine appointments  during regular business hours.
