President's 12345 Message from Kristina Whalen

May 24, 2024

1. Graduation Update.

As of this morning, we are quite shy of the staff attendance goal for the commencement ceremony taking place in the Quad on June 28th at 10 am. We need a strong groundswell before the deadline to order regalia passes this Sunday.

Let’s amass a celebratory audience of 80 or more faculty and staff.

The 64th commencement ceremony for Foothill College includes keynote speaker and poet Joaquin Zihuatanejo. Joaquin is a revered educator, accomplished author and Slam Poetry World Champion. His talent is a perfect tribute to our students’ accomplishments.

2. Laura Wigod Memorial.

A memorial will be held for dear colleague on May 30th at noon, in the 1900 courtyard. A campuswide Outlook invitation was sent Wednesday.

3. MIPC Update.

At the May 17th MIPC meeting, the Institutional Effective Partnership Initiative (IEPI) Resource team, headed by Los Medanos President Pamela Ralston was here. The team visited the membership to listen to the discussion on the formation of an Institutional Effective Committee, which would become one of four standing committees of MIPC.

For those unfamiliar with the State Chancellor’s Office Initiative, peer teams provide brain trust and resources to colleges around a strategic issue. The College submitted an application for assistance with strategic planning and will, once our plan is submitted, receive a grant to implement our educational master planning activities.

4. The End-of-the-Year-Campus Celebration & 13-55 Poster Walk.

We are a little more than three weeks away from our annual End of Year Celebration for Retirees and 13-55 Poster Walk on Wednesday, June 12 from 12-2pm in the [new location] Campus Center Plaza (across from the BIPOC-Multicultural and Basic Needs Centers)

5. Reminder: Foothill Fiscal Forum next week.

Please come to the Foothill College Fiscal Forum on May 31st at 2 pm. The webinar will cover the updates and implications of the Governor’s May revision of the State Budget. Also, the senior leadership team will communicate specific fiscal circumstances of Foothill College as we sunset a district sponsored pilot project and move into a sustainable budget model. An invitation to attend has been sent campus-wide through Outlook.

Yours in service,
Kristina
