MIPC Actions on October 6th

(1) MIPC Actions on October 6th.

MIPC (the Mision Informed Planning Council)  met for the first meeting of the Fall quarter last Friday. The meeting was facilitated by Voltaire Villanueva.

New members were welcomed, including four students and one alternate. Students reps are Joshua Agupugo, ASFC President; Nicole Nguyen, Foothill Student Trustee; Bebel Yen, Elected representative; Nina Mistry Haywood, Appointed representative; and Filippi Montes as Alternate.

Suggestions for better communicating MIPC meetings and actions were noted. Outlook calendar invitations for all MIPC meetings will be sent college-wide from now on. A summary of the committee's actions will be noted in the President's 12345 after each MIPC meeting.

Evaluating the Mission Informed Planning Council: this discussion resulted in consensus that a working group should form to better define the purpose of the evaluation; the group could then recommend the best mechanisms to harvest feedback.  MIPC reached consensus that a current Governance Handbook was needed. This document could better clarify the committee’s work, items that go to the Mission Informed Planning Council and what standing committees or workgroups report to MIPC.  The committee received an update on the Institutional Self Evaluation (ISER) Report and the deadlines for feedback. 

(2) Coffee with a Cop.

This Wednesday (Oct 11) at 10 am, you’ll find me having a cup of joe with the fine members of the FHDA campus police at Cesar Chavez Plaza. Please join me to build stronger relationships with our campus police colleagues.

(3) Near Earth Objects.

On Wednesday evening (Oct 11) in the Smithwick Theatre, I hope you’ll join me as an audience member for the Astronomy Talk titled, “The Peril and Profit of Near-Earth Objects." I was intrigued by the description of Dr. Robert Jedicke’s lecture and am thrilled to attend my first Silicon Valley Astronomical Society Lecture Series, now in its 23rd year at Foothill. Words start flying at 7pm!. 

(4) Linguistic Justice.

Last year I went to the Hella Feminism exhibit at the Oakland Museum of California History. I walked up to one large display that had influential Bay Area feminist silhouettes on the wall alongside headsets so attendees could connect to their unique stories; when I donned the headset, it was miraculously cued to the distinctive voice of Michelle Gonzales. Michelle has a wonderful punk rock-poet story to tell, but I also know her as a fierce equity champion at Las Positas College. I’m thrilled that Michelle, and the equally brilliant Kisha Turner, will be here Thursday (Oct 12) at noon in the Hearthside Lounge to continue her partnership with Foothill on Linguistic Justice.  Come fill your cup at this Latinx Heritage Month Event.
