Whats it Like (WiL) Talk: Careers in Marine Sciences

⏰January 24 @ 12-1pm

📍KCI High-flex room room 4006 and Zoom

Join Roxanne A. Garibay and Madison McKay as they deep dive (no pun intended!) into the world of marine science careers! This is one of the most trending fields intersecting climate change, biology, chemistry,  anthropology, and business. Learn about why you should consider this field as the ocean is one of our final frontiers!

Meet Roxanne Roxanne grew up in Monterey County and is a third-year marine science master’s student researching disturbances and giant kelp at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. Prior to her graduate program, she worked in various public aquariums in animal care. Aside from her lab and field research for her thesis, she is also active in multiple student organizations that host events for graduate students in Monterey Bay and K-12 outreach. Roxanne plans to pursue opportunities in environmental project management or policy after completing her master’s.

Meet Madison McKayMadison McKay is currently in her second year of pursuing a master's degree at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. Her research focuses on kelp restoration, specifically employing drones to map changes in kelp populations over expansive areas and extended periods. As part of her thesis work, she is engaged in restoration aquaculture, where she cultivates bull kelp for outplanting. In addition to her academic pursuits, Madison is actively involved in sustainable aquaculture practices at Monterey Bay Seaweeds. Beyond her research, she is passionate about science communication, actively sharing her efforts and insights with others to foster a deeper understanding of marine conservation and restoration.
