A group of women with different ethnic backgrounds will discuss their experience being a woman with the context of their culture. From their mother's role, to their personal experiences, to the changes they would like to see in the future - these women will bring a wealth of insight into what it's like being a woman in different cultures. In celebration of Women's History Month, join our SLI Diversity in STEM panel discussion with four amazing women who are working in STEM-related careers, including Yasaman Damestani, Director and Head of Digital Medicine at Karyopharm Therapeutics; Sarnai Gantumur, UX Researcher at Meta Reality Labs via ICONMA; Katherine Mavromatti,software engineer at Noah Medical; Pavini Sethi, Co-Founder at Chipko Asia. Event hosted by the Foothill Science Learning Institute.

Yasaman Damestani, Director and Head of Digital Medicine at Karyopharm Therapeutics. Prior to joining Karyopharm, Yasaman was a Manager in the Digital and Quantitative
Medicine group at Biogen and a Senior Engineer in the Device and Final Drug product
group at Amgen. Yasaman attended Foothill College from 2007 to 2008, and then transferred
to University of California, Davis to complete her Bachelors of Science degree in
Biomedical Engineering in 2010. She graduated from the University of California, Riverside
with a Ph.D. in Bioengineering in 2015. Yasaman actively champions diversity and inclusion
to enable women to achieve their ambitions, educate each other, and empower a more
diverse workforce.
Sarnai Gantumur, UX Researcher at Meta Reality Labs via ICONMA. Previously, Sarnai worked at Amazon Lab126 as a human factors usability specialist,
and as a research assistant at Google. Sarnai's current and past work include wearables, AR, vision science and gamification research.
She graduated from Foothill College in 2016, SJSU in 2018 and is currently finishing
her master's degree at SJSU. In her free time, Sarnai likes traveling, meeting new
people and reading books.
Katherine Mavromatti, software engineer at Noah Medical. Katherine started her journey at Foothill College in 2013 and was taking courses
to transfer to a 4-year university and major in Biomedical Engineering. After 2 years,
she transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as a Biomedical Engineer and was introduced
to programming during her senior year, when she built a system to track the position
of a patient's leg during surgery using an Arduino and an IMU sensor. That's when
she decided to pursue software engineering as a career. She interned and then got
a job with TrueVision, a small company in Santa Barbara. From there, Katherine moved
to Think Surgical and is now currently working at Noah Medical, where she is part
of a talented team of engineers that is revolutionizing development of medical robotic
platforms.
Pavini Sethi, Co-Founder at Chipko Asia. Pavini is a proud Foothill College Alumni who has engaged in a diverse range of
experiences in the field of social work, mental health, and most recently environmental
management. She has recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Environmental
Conservation & Resource Studies. Aside from school and work, she loves hiking, connecting
with people, traveling, playing sports, and listening to music.

Dr. Katherine R. Jolluck is Senior Lecturer in Modern East European History at Stanford University. With over 30 years of experience in the history of twentieth-century Eastern Europe and Russia, Dr. Jolluck's expertise includes topics of women and war, women in communist societies, second world war, and human trafficking. Her books include: Exile and Identity: Polish Women in the Soviet Union during WWII, and Gulag Voices: Oral Histories of Soviet Incarceration and Exile (with Jehanne M Gheith). Students must adhere to all Foothill College COVID-19 Guidelines to come in-person.

How should you express it? This workshop will explore these questions and more. It is designed for women but will be helpful for all genders as you navigate the complexities of human relationships.
