San Francisco Bay Area
The San Francisco Bay Area offers its visitors and locals variety of activities. There
are opportunities to do all types of outdoor activities like hiking or going to the
beach. You can watch sporting events, go out on the town, catch great cultural events,
or feel the great entrepreneurial spirit of the high-tech companies in Silicon Valley
San Francisco is only 40 miles (64 km) from Foothill College and is home to world famous landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, San Francisco Cable Cars, Angel Island, Ghirardelli Square, and many more.
Foothill College is located in the Silicon Valley where it is home to world famous technology companies such as Apple, Facebook, Google, YouTube, Tesla, and many more.
San Jose offers many exciting activities and is only 15 miles (24 km) from Foothill College. It is home to one of only three existing Japantown in the USA. The Japanese Friendship Garden is patterned after Japan's famous Korakuen Garden in Okayama. Foothill College hosts a Bamboo Garden which was established in 1989 and covers two acres.
Santa Cruz is located about about 38 miles (61 km) from Foothill College and is famous for water related activities such as surfing. In 1885, three princes from Hawaii introduced surfing to Santa Cruz. Due to history, there is a strong bond between Santa Cruz and Hawaii, which is a 5 hour flight from San Francisco. Santa Cruz is home to Jack O'Neill, inventor of the wetsuit.
The Shoreline at Mountain View provides numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, golfing, sailing, and picnicking. The Shoreline Amphitheater hosts a number of concerts every month.
