Schedule:

The schedule changes every quarter, but my enthusiasm for good public education doesn't!

Course information:

BIOL F040B.08 HUMAN ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY II (Lecture and Lab)

Interests:

Giorgio is an assistant professor at the Cardiovascular Research Institute of UCSF. He currently studies how vascular and cardiac diseases arise from defects in the proteins and small RNA molecules that regulate cell signaling. He also teaches undergraduate students at several institutions, including UC Berkeley Extension, University of San Francisco, Santa Clara University, and Foothill College.

Giorgio has broad experience in basic research, both in academic science and in the private biotechnology sector. His research has been published in Nature, Cell, and other high-impact scientific journals.

As group-leader in two early-stage biotechnology companies, Giorgio developed drug discovery processes that employed vertebrate embryology models, stem cells, cell-based reporter systems, retroviral gene-trap techniques, and other innovative applications of basic molecular biology principles.

Besides his recognized track record in scientific discovery and leadership, he is noted for a highly collaborative style and an emphasis on team-building and mentoring.

Biography:

Born and educated in Italy, worked as a biologist in New York City, Boston, and San Francisco. Started teaching in mid-career to pass on his enthusiasm for the science of life to the next generation of scientists and health care specialists.

Personal Quote:

"Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere."

Anton Ego ;-)
