New Common Course Numbering (CCN) System Implemented for Fall 2025

Phase I of a state-mandated initiative — aimed at simplifying student transfer and ensuring uniformity in course numbers across California Community Colleges — is underway for Fall 2025. This impacts six Foothill courses plus their honors course version. View the six courses listed here.

Class Section Letter Codes

When viewing a course in the schedule of classes, you will see a letter at the end of the class course section number IF that class is NOT being taught FULLY in person on campus. View section letter code definitions.

Description: Introduction to the study of human culture and the concepts, theories, and methods used to understand different social and cultural systems, with an emphasis on appreciating human diversity. Topics include a cross-cultural exploration of: subsistence strategies; social, political, and economic organization; language and communication; marriage and kinship; religion; gender; ethnicity and race; social inequality; culture change; and the effects of colonialism and globalization. Focus is made on the application of anthropological perspectives to contemporary social issues.
