Fund the Future Presents Exploring Guatemala through Social Impact Work

Foothill's Fund the Future Club will share stories about travels and work in Guatemala through our Study Abroad program.

Listen to a panel of Foothill students that traveled to Guatemala last summer to learn about global poverty and immerse themselves in a new culture.

Several Foothill students will share their experience from last summer's trip to Guatemala. The students worked on building a school for a Mayan village, learned about Microcredit firsthand, and immersed themselves in a wide range of cultural activities. Ask them questions to see if such a trip is something you might be interested in next summer!

Please join Honduran writer and photojournalist Tomas Ayuso, who will talk about his work that focuses on Latin American conflict as it relates to the drug war, forced displacement and urban dispossession. Through his work, Ayuso’s aim is to connect and include marginalized communities in the overarching narrative and history of the Western Hemisphere.

Please join award-winning Mexican photographer Citlalli Rico, who will talk about her work as one of the leading wedding photographers in the world. She was awarded top 10 wedding photographers in Mexico by the Magazine Visit Mexico, Fearless Photographers of the Year in 2011, Top 10 Storytellers of the World in 2021 by This is Reportage, and several more. As a frequent speaker, she shares her insights and unique perspective on wedding photojournalism and portraiture at conferences and workshops worldwide and was part of the mentor team of the Foundation Workshops in the USA, Mexico, and Europe. Based in Cancun, Mexico, Citlalli is passionate about nature, arts, and education.

In honor of Latinx Heritage Month and Día de Muertos, an altar or "ofrenda" will be set up in the dining hall with the theme of Human Rights starting on October 30th. Please consider taking the time to reflect on the lives lost during this time. Join us as we reflect together toward understanding, compassion, and hope.
