Bernie Day currently serves Foothill College as the Articulation/Curriculum Officer. Prior to this role, she served students as a counselor both at the four-year and community college levels for nearly twenty years. During this time, she served students by providing personal, career and academic counseling and through teaching personal development courses such as career planning and academic/life skills. She holds a lifetime credential in psychology, as well.
Bernie completed degrees at both the University of California at Berkeley and San Diego State University. Additionally, she completed all the coursework for a second master's degree in Learning Disabilities/Special Education at San Jose State University. A lifelong learner, she regularly enrolls in courses for personal pleasure such as gardening and cooking.She is a University of California certified Master Gardener.
Bernie currently serves on the CSU "Give Students a COmpass" Advisory Board as well as the statewide C-ID Advisory Board and the Executive Committee for the California Intersegmental Articulation Council.In recent years, she served on the statewide Academic Senate Educational Policies Committee, the ASCCC Curriculum Committee, and the ASCCC Transfer and Articulation Committee. She represented the California Community Colleges on the University of California-California Community College Transfer Advisory Board. She co-authored two papers: Part-Time Faculty: A Principled Perspective. The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. (Adopted Spring 2002) and Faculty as Professionals: Responsibilities, Standards and Ethics. The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. (Adopted Spring 2002). She is the recipient of the California Association of Counseling and Development (CACD) Morgan Vail Distinguished Service Award.
