Course information:

Photo 5/Introduction to Photography - A survey of the historical and practical aspects of photography as an art form and social document. Students will be introduced to the use of light, composition and communication through images. Significant photographers from a diversity of backgrounds will inspire students in the practice of photography and developing an understanding of the varied uses of the photographic image in our culture including advertising, journalism, social concern, fine art, and scientific applications.

Judith Walgren is a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, photo editor, visual artist, teacher, curator and writer. She is also the branded content director for the creative studio ViewFind. Previously, she was the director of photographer at the San Francisco Chronicle and a photo editor/staff photographer for the Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News and Dallas Morning News. Walgren lives in San Francisco with her son, Theo.
