(1) The Art of Community: Eduardo Chavez.
TODAY--Happening SOON! October 23 from 11 a.m.–1p.m. in Room 5015, I'll be at a special screening of Hailing Cesar with Eduardo Chavez, Grandson of César Chávez. The event is co-sponsored by The Art of Community and ASFC. The film captures Eduardo’s personal journey as he connects with his grandfather’s legacy and explores critical issues like human rights, immigration, personal identity, and social justice. Following the screening, Eduardo will participate in a live Q&A session, sharing insights about his family’s activism and the continued relevance of César Chávez’s work today.
(2) Soccer Tailgate and Trunk or Treat
Monday October 28th from 3–4 p.m., come to Lot 4 (the PSEC Parking Lot) for a Women’s Soccer Tailgate and “Trunk or Treat” event. Campus colleagues will decorate their tailgates for spooky season while preparing to cheer Owls soccer players to victory. All campus members are welcome to attend. Lil ones welcome too! Tailgate starts at 3 p.m. and the women take on the Las Positas Hawks starting at 4 p.m.
(3) Mission Informed Planning Council last Friday and upcoming.
The second meeting happened last Friday, October 18th. Here are the key takeaways:
- Food services and inventory are limited, especially in late afternoon; business services is exploring creative options
- Technology committee is focusing on equity in AI/algorithms and preparing for a new technology plan.
- Building, grounds and sustainability shared progress on inclusivity projects like the all gender restrooms in the library and lower campus. These will be ready in early November. The new ADA pathway for the second floor of 8000s is now open.
- The Bookstore Task Force met for the first time and cataloged the significant issues with inventory, customer service, and hours. The taskforce is working on both short term and long term solutions.
The next MIPC meeting is November 1st, from 1- 3pm both in 1901 and online.
(4) Foothill College Hall of Fame Event - October 2025
The Foothill Community Ambassadors meet bi-monthly with the president to help support Foothill College’s priorities. Currently the Community Ambassadors are planning an Alumni Hall of Fame event for October 2025. Over the next couple of months, be on the lookout for ways that you can be involved in this important event that will build a stronger alumni database, fundraise for experiential learning, make important connections, and further raise the profile of Foothill College in our community, and beyond.
(5) Artist Reception, 1900 lobby, November 6th from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Foothill College Transition to Work Collaborative Portraiture Project, with photographer Judy Walgren. The reception celebrates the portraits (and subjects) on exhibition in the 1900 lobby. Each portrait was made in collaboration with 2023-2024 TTW students and Photography professor Judy Walgren, and with the facilitation of the TTW director Ben Kaupp. Students directed their own poses, decided whether or not to use props and chose their favorite image for the exhibition. Light refreshments served. Come by to meet the students, their families, and hear from the artist.
