Pathways to Political Science

Two people talkingPathways to Political Science is a peer-to-peer mentoring program designed to support political science students as they prepare to transfer to a four-year university and beyond. This initiative connects current students with alumni who have successfully transferred and are pursuing (or have completed) their degrees at four-year institutions.

Through one-on-one mentorship, group discussions, workshops, and virtual events, mentees gain valuable insights into the transfer process, navigating academic expectations at the university level, exploring career pathways in political science, and building a professional and academic network.

Mentors provide guidance on everything from choosing the right university and understanding upper-division coursework to managing the social and cultural transition to a four-year campus. Whether alumni are currently attending a university or have moved on to graduate school or careers in law, public service, policy, or education, their experiences provide a roadmap for success.

Program Goals:

  • Ease the transition from community college to university for political science majors.
  • Create a supportive, informed community across institutions.
  • Foster professional growth and academic confidence.
  • Highlight diverse pathways in political science related fields.

Who Can Join:

  • Mentees: Current AA-T political science students seeking guidance and support.
  • Mentors: Alumni who have transferred to a 4-year institution and want to support the community.
