The Foothill College Environmental Horticulture and Design program is particularly well known for the landscape design and construction portions of our curriculum. Favorite garden as voted by the public - Pacific Horticulture Magazine Award - Gold Medal
Demonstrating the regional nature of garden design - The Palette Award - Gold Metal
Most skillful use of color - The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Garden Award - Gold Metal
Most successful use of plants in a well-designed landscape - Foliage Award - Silver Metal
Best garden featuring plants for their foliage
Other awards from the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show include:
- Exceptional / Outstanding Educational Exhibit (2003, 2002, 2001, & 1999)
- Garden Vignette (1999) - Gold Medal (Best Landscape Design)
Each year the Environmental Horticulture and Design program also conducts special
events for the public as well as for our students. Some of these events include seasonal
plant sales and an annual spring garden tour and pot-luck.
Students also participate in a variety of special committees related to the use and
development of our facilities. Examples are the Herb and Perennial Garden Committee,
the Nursery and Plant Sale Committee, and the Composting Committee. Each committee
provides an opportunity for student interaction and sharing.
Lastly, within the next few years, new facilities for the department will be built
on campus. These will include new classrooms, greenhouse, construction lab building,
lath-house, and completely new outdoor facilities and gardens. Please join us as we
move forward with our new curriculum and plan for our new facilities.
