Pharm Tech Students Support Local Pharmacies
In this COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a tremendous need for more support in the community pharmacy setting. All of Foothill College's PHT students have stepped up to serve the community as pharmacy technician externs at 11 various Bay Area Walgreens Pharmacies and at TruePill Pharmacy in Hayward. They have been at these sites for the past five weeks.
Dr. Clarrise Tu, the Regional District Manager of Walgreens Pharmacy raved about the students and was delighted with the tremendous amount of positive feedback she received from individual Walgreens Pharmacists/Managers. She said it was unprecedented that EVERY Walgreens site (all 11) wanted to hire a Foothill extern permanently because of their exemplary performance, teamwork and patient service skills.
In fact, our students have been offered permanent positions and some have accepted part-time positions. The TruePill Pharmacy administrators also echoed the same sentiments about the students.
"All the store managers and pharmacy staff are so impressed with how eager the Foothill students wanted to learn, contribute, and serve the community. They are the "RIGHT" people for this profession," said Dr. Tu. "Seeing how passionate they are during this crisis is really inspiring to our team members to continue to do what they do. They re-energized our pharmacy team as a whole and the externs could not have come at a better time."
Program director Angela Su has been going to all the pharmacy sites to observe the students in action. It is particularly gratifying to see how their education and training has prepared them for success in the real world of pharmacy. We are so proud of our students for their courage and willingness to serve the community during the COVID 19 pandemic.
