About Certificates

The Foothill College Geospatial Technology program offers a set of certificates which scale up to an AS degree. These certificates were modeled on the GeoTech Center's model curriculum with guidance from the Foothill College GIS program advisory board and are newly approved by the State Chancellor's office for California Community Colleges. The certificates build a solid technical background in geographic information systems concepts and applications including cartographic concepts, database design, programming and interdisciplinary applications of the technology.

Each certificate can be applied to the next one in the sequence, and the entire sequence can be completed in as little as four quarters. The outcomes of the certificates align with the U.S. Department of Labor geospatial competency model for geospatial careers. This program will prepare students to apply for the Geographic Information Systems Professional certification (GISP) through the Geographic Information Systems Certification Institute, administered through the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association.

Per college policy, 50% of the units for any certificate or degree must be completed through Foothill College.

See the Degrees & Certificates page for classes required for each of the Certificate of Achievements.
