Women's basketball headed to Nor Cal Regional Final this weekend
For the third year in a row,
the Foothill College Women's Basketball Team was named conference champions! Lead by head coach Jody Craig, the Owls defeated Mission College, 76-42, in mid-February to clinch the Coast Conference Championship.
In a game to determine first place, every team member scored for the Owls and they were led by sophomores, Akilah Jennings with 21 points, Lira Ndifon with 12, Tyiteyana Jefferson and Essence Johnson with 10 each.
"We are excited about our performance this season," said Craig. "These girls have worked extremely hard and have grown tremendously as a group. I believe we are playing our best game and I am proud to say we are the number
one defensive team in the state. We are ready for the playoffs!"
Due to their regular season dominance, the team had a first-round bye and took on Chabot College at home in the second round, 77-47. The game was never close with the Owls up by 24 at the halftime. The win earned the team
a sport in the Nor Cal Regional Final versus number-one seed Sierra College. The game takes place at 7 p.m. this Saturday, March 4 in the Sierra College gym.

Planning and Resource Council (PaRC) Update
Below is a summary of the action and information items from the most recent Planning and Resource Council (PaRC) meetings. For complete minutes and first-reads, please visit the
PaRC website.
DISTRICT STRATEGIC PLAN
The District Strategic Plan went to the Chancellor's Advisory Council prior to PaRC and received approval and was scheduled to go to the Board of Trustees at the February 6, 2017 regular meeting and study session. Approval
by PaRC is considered 'informal,' , but will still be documented. It was noted that the comments from Foothill and De Anza were taken into account when revising the Strategic Plan. It was also emphasized that there were a number of items that did not need
to be included in the District plan and were more specific to each of the Colleges.
ACCREDITATION
Thuy Nguyen announced that two topics have been selected for Foothill's Quality Focus Essay (QFE):
1. Create a new college participatory governance system that actively involves a majority of college employees and is recognized by learning and dialogue about how to achieve college goals.
2. Develop more clearly defined educational pathways, resulting in reduced time for students to complete their goals.
Andrew LaManque is currently drafting some outline ideas for both QFE topics - these will go out to the accreditation standards committees for revision before a more finalized draft is presented to the larger College community.
STRONG WORKFORCE & PERKINS ALLOCATIONS
The Workforce Workgroup presented their Perkins allocation recommendations. They are currently recommending the second round of Strong Workforce dollars from the state. Both may be found on the
PaRC website.

Foothill College Good News Corner!
Music instructor Paul Davies is premiering his new musical selection, "Medjugorje" in late March with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra. After the success of Davies' opera, Carlota, which premiered two years ago at the Mexican Heritage
Plaza, San Jose Chamber Orchestra director Barbara Day Turner commissioned Dr. Davies to write a new piece for her ensemble. "Medjugorje" refers to a place in Bosnia-Herzegovina where many Catholics around the world believe the Virgin Mary has been appearing
since 1981. Through her messages to six children (who are now in their mid 30s to mid 40s) she is appealing to the whole world for a return back to the path of God and spirituality.
