Admitted Students: Getting to Foothill College
Arriving by air
The San Francisco Bay Area is served by three airports that handle both international and domestic flights:
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is located approximately 30 miles from the Foothill College area and most flights to the Bay Area arrive at this airport. It is one of the busiest airports in the world.
San Jose International Airport (SJC) is a much smaller airport located about 15 miles from the Foothill area.
Oakland International Airport (OAK) is located across the San Francisco Bay from Foothill College, about 47 miles away. It, too, is less congested than SFO.
Getting to the Foothill College area from the airport
Safety advisory —Ignore offers of ground transportation from solicitors inside the terminal building. While these solicitors may look and sound official, they are not authorized to solicit passengers.
For ground transportation assistance upon arrival at SFO, SJC or OAK, please go directly to the nearest Airport Information or Travelers Aid Booth, or Lodging, Transportation and Attractions Board.
We can recommend several options for getting to Foothill College or to the surrounding Mountain View/Los Altos area:
Private Airport Pick-up by Global Study Tours:
Global Study Tours will provide a private airport transfer from any airport in the Bay Area as part of their service to Foothill College international students. A flat fee of $80 USD (cash) will be collected in the vehicle. Please make a reservation at least 5 days prior to your arrival by contacting or by calling +1-408-306-6616 or +1-408-306-6667. For more information and to make an airport pick-up reservation, please consult Global Study Tours' website.
By shuttle
Door-to-door shuttles will drop you off at a specific location. You will need to share the cost of the trip with other passengers. The fare could be between $15-$40, depending on your destination. Currency exchange windows are located in the International Terminal in all three airports.
Shuttle reservations are recommended if you are traveling during holiday periods such as Thanksgiving (end of November), Christmas and Easter.
The following shuttle services are available from all three airports (SFO, SJC & OAK):
SuperShuttle: Contact them at (650) 558-8500, or make a reservation online.
South and East Bay Shuttle: Contact them at (408) 559-9477, or make a reservation online.
Inform the shuttle service that you would like to go to the Mountain View/Los Altos area or to your specific address.
By taxi
A taxi to the Foothill area may cost approximately $55 to $65 from SFO and $45 to $50 from SJC.
By public ground transportation
Foothill College and the surrounding Silicon Valley are served by inexpensive bus and light rail service.
Caltrain is a comfortable and efficient commuter rail line that runs between San Francisco and San Jose. The closest stop to Foothill is the Mountain View station, from which one can take the VTA Bus Route 52 bus to the campus (see below).
The following buses, run by VTA (Valley Transit Authority), service the Foothill campus:
Route 52 (Foothill College to Downtown Mountain View Transit Center). Schedule and route map are available online.
Route 40 (L'Avenida to Foothill College). Schedule and route map are available online.
