The proposal is based on Communication Studies Instructor Che Meneses's research project at San Jose State University. He just finished Post-Production called 2020 Hindsight: The Politicalization of Immigration is a focus group base study addressing how bilingual Bay Area Spanish speaking college students read news on immigration during the 2016 Presidential debates. Here's the website with videos: www.elvotolatino.org. The proposed event will air the 4 video segments 23 minutes total and include a group discussion on "The Politicization of Immigration" via print news, digital news, social media and how "fake news" convoluted the voting behavior and source credibility. The website also entails a 7-minute video interview with Pulitzer Prize and Time magazine cover Jose Antonio Vargas, a national figure on the topic of Undocumented Immigration, DACA and Dreamers. Che is also open to collaborating with other campus members on this workshop, parallel topics include DACA, Dreamers, Latino news consumption, Spanish language news and immigration.
