Statewide Career Pathways Project
In September 2005, Senator Scott's Vocational Education legislation, SB 70, was chaptered into the Education Code section 88532. The bill focused on improving the linkages and career-technical pathways between high school and California community colleges. Most of the community college response to the legislation is occurring through programs coordinated directly from the System Office, and personnel there have begun to inform colleges about some of their plans. The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is implementing one project called Statewide Career Pathways: Creating School to College Articulation.

The Statewide Career Pathways project aims to provide an opportunity for high school and college faculty to meet, collaborate and develop articulation agreements. Agreements that result will vary by discipline and may include alignment of course skills, concepts and sequences, advanced placement possibilities and credit by examination options. While many schools and colleges participated in efforts to align curriculum and develop articulation agreements especially through Tech Prep programs, faculty have indicated several unmet needs which this project will address. This project aims to:
- Develop a database of articulation agreements, accessible across the state.
- Provide opportunities and support for faculty at schools and colleges to meet and develop agreements.
- Create outreach strategies to encourage participation of students, parents and schools/college personnel.

California Community College Chancellor's Office Information
The Career Technical Education (CTE) Unit of the Economic Development and Workforce Preparation Division focuses on program coordination and advocacy, policy development and coordination with K-18 workforce preparation and career and technical education systems. The CTE Unit is responsible for the implementation of the Carl D. Perkins Career Technical Education Act (Perkins IV) of 2006, which includes managing and coordinating activities that impact other interagency and intra-agency objectives. The unit also coordinates the implementation of the Governor's Career Pathways Initiative (SB 70; SB 1133). In addition, the CTE Unit is responsible for the development, dissemination, and implementation of the California State Plan and the annual performance reports.
