President’s 12345 The Spring weather has been beautiful, and I've enjoyed walks around campus with butterflies, bees, and new blooms. Rain is expected to arrive, hopefully, after we host one of the biggest events of the year: Possible Self: Day on the Hill this Saturday, May 4th. Here is the 1-2-3-4-5 for this week.

(1) Budget Town Hall.

Thanks to all that attended the Budget Town Hall yesterday. Understanding our financial complexities is key to the campus community moving in one direction. If you are unable to attend, I encourage you to watch a posted recording that may be found on the Chancellor’s website after the event. As was noted by the moderator, Anu Khanna, some questions asked in the Q&A were specific to Foothill College. we are accessing the feasibility of hosting our own information sharing session to clarify Foothill's specific complexities.

(2) Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

A month of celebration kicks off today in the quad with Opening Ceremonies. I’ll be there enjoying the performances, activities. Come by at noon in the quad. And, be sure to attend some of a dozen different planned events!

(3) RSLS Facilitators needed.

Please sign up to be a facilitator at the 7th annual: Research Service Leadership Symposium by Wednesday May 8th: We are requesting your assistance in guiding on-campus and/or Zoom room presentations. For each segment we hope to have two skilled and enthusiastic faculty, staff, administrator, or community facilitators. The primary task for a facilitator is to keep track of time, ask questions, and encourage audience members to ask questions, ensuring a positive experience for each speaker as they discuss the work they have done. (4) MIPC.

The Mission Informed Planning Council meets this Friday at 1:00 pm in 1901 and Zoom. Check out the MIPC website for the minutes and agenda.

(5) What I’m reading: Commitments to Free Speech, Protest and an Open Exchange of Ideas.

Over the weekend I read the ACLU’s Open Letter to College and University Presidents on Student Protests and found the explanation of free speech freedoms and boundaries a set of commitments I’m eager to work with stakeholders to uphold and implement.
