The Foothill College Photography Department presents From Burma to Myanmar: Portrait of A Country in Transition, a photography exhibit that captures a country exiting a troubled past and entering a new era of reform and openness in the KCI Gallery at Foothill College May 15–June 21. An opening reception will be held May 15, 7–-9 p.m. Admission is free; parking is $3.

A nominally civilian government was installed in March 2011, ending 50 years of military dictatorship and opening a doorway to increased foreign relationships, investment and tourism.  Burma today offers contrasting views of traditional ways and modernization.  During a two-week trip led by Foothill College Photography Instructor Ron Herman, the participating photographers visited many areas of the country, including the cities of Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake. Each town offered its golden pagodas, often the cultural and spiritual center of Buddhist life. Seventeen Silicon Valley photographers will share their experiences with 30 photographs at the Krause Center for Innovation (KCI) Gallery.

Featured photographers include Katherine Bazak, Cathy Cakebread, Barbara Buchholz Collins, Michael Collins, Harlan Crowder, Lorraine Crowder, Evelyn D’Alessandro, Lisa D’Alessandro, Ann Eddington, Karen Hensman, Ron Herman, Bob Mazawa, Melinda Miller, Susan Neville, Sandy O’Gorman, Don Wheatley and Kate Winn-Rogers.

The exhibit is located in the KCI Gallery, on the lower level of the Krause Center for Innovation, Building 4000, at Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022. Parking Lot 4 provides the closest access to the KCI.  Visitors must purchase a parking permit for $3 from dispensers in any student parking lot. Dispensers accept one-dollar bills and quarters; bring exact change. Foothill College is located off I-280 on El Monte Road in Los Altos Hills.

The From Burma to Myanmar: Portrait of A Country in Transition exhibit is open Mondays–Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The gallery is closed Sundays and for the Memorial Day holiday observance (May 24–26).
