Foothill Summer Music Spectatular Gala is July 26

guys and dolls art workAward-winning Foothill Music Theatre (FMT), under the direction of Jay Manley, presents Guys & Dolls July 18 through Aug. 10 in the air-conditioned Smithwick Theater at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. Featuring a talented 45–member cast, the show is presented in the exciting tradition of FMT’s Oklahoma, West Side Story and Show Boat.

This summer, New York-based professional actor C.J. Blankenship, remembered for outstanding FMT starring performances as Tony in West Side Story and Curly in Show Boat, returns to the Foothill stage to star as leading man Sky Masterson in FMT’s Guys & Dolls.

With an exciting selection of singable tunes, including If I Were a Bell, I’ve Never Been in Love Before, Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat, Adelaide’s Lament and Marry the Man Today, the show was originally produced by Frank Loesser and became the fifth longest-running musical of the 1950s.

Gala Proceeds Benefit Foothill Programs

Building on its past success, the Foothill Commission will host its third annual summer theater benefit gala Saturday, July 26, at Foothill. Festivities will include an elegant alfresco dinner, small live auction, director’s notes by Jay Manley and preferred seating for FMT’s performance of Guys & Dolls. Last year’s summer gala raised $40,000 for Foothill programs. This year, proceeds will support Foothill Music Theatre as well as the college’s Honors Institute, Pass the Torch Peer Study Program, Tutorial Center and specialized tutoring for students enrolling in health care career programs, says Foothill Commission Allocations Committee Chairwoman Mady Kahn.

“Supporting the summer theater gala is a great opportunity to show community appreciation for theoutstanding programs that Foothill College offers,” say Foothill Commission Co-Chairs Steve Acers and Janet Harding. “Your investment in educational excellence is the best guarantee that we have of assuring a prosperous future for our community.”
