Two New Associate Degree Programs
Adaptive Fitness Technician & Special Education
This quarter, Foothill College debuts two new degree programs: Special Education and Adaptive Fitness Technician. In addition to awarding career certificates and the associate degree, both programs are the first step to rewarding careers that allow for flexible work schedules, excellent employment opportunities and good salary packages.
Adaptive Fitness Technician
The Adaptive Fitness Technician certificate option can be completed in one year and the associate degree can be completed in two years.
The program is designed for anyone who is interested in a career as a fitness professional, personal trainer, physical therapist aide, home health professional, activity director or related professional who works with special populations or older adults. Foothill classes can also be taken for professional growth or continuing education credits for those currently working in this field.
Graduates of the program will be qualified to work in a variety of work settings, including health and fitness centers, rehabilitation facilities, educational institutions, community centers, retirement homes and convalescent hospitals.
Starting salary ranges for entry-level technicians range between $10$15 per hour depending on training and experience. Wages for more experienced personal trainers range $50$75 per hour.
Special Education
The Special Education associate degree program is designed to provide a comprehensive course of study that focuses on disability and special education topics. Students will develop practical skills and knowledge that can be used in a variety of occupations involving persons with disabilities.
Program graduates will be qualified to work as paraprofessionals in rehabilitation facilities, human service organizations, public and private educational institutions, community centers, retirement homes and convalescent hospitals.
The program provides students the opportunity to explore careers in special education and other disability-related fields. Professionals who currently work in this field can take these classes for professional growth or continuing education credits.

Go to class with the Fab Four when you enroll in the four-unit MUS 7D: The Beatles in the Culture of Popular Music course.
Well examine the influences, styles and exactly why the Beatles had and continue to have the impact they do, says Music Instructor Paul Davies. Well also examine how todays bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots and others have incorporated similar styles into their music.
In addition, students will study prominent Beatles albums and songs associated with the bands evolution, and their synthesis of a wide variety of popular and obscure music styles. A variety of media consisting of videos, recordings, lecture and live performance will be used to showcase style and technique.
