Understanding Attention Deficit Disorder

Dr. Daniel Amen, a national pioneer of the neurobiology of learning and brain imaging, has teamed up with Foothill to help develop the popular three-unit SPED 3: Attention Deficit Disorder for Educators & Parents course, which will be offered Thursday, Sept. 28–Dec. 15, from 5:30–8:20 p.m.

The course is designed to increase the understanding of the physiological and psychological impact that ADD has on students of all ages. The course is an excellent learning opportunity for medical providers, social services professionals and psych students as well as individuals who have or suspect they have ADD.

Students who enroll in the course will examine the six subtypes of ADD as well as learn effective coping strategies for assisting children and adults who have ADD. Students will also examine how lifestyle changes, and appropriate diagnostic treatment can impact the student with ADD. In addition to lecture presentations, panel discussions and guest speakers, the course will feature Amen’s critically acclaimed textbook, Healing ADD from the Inside Out.
