Nakamatsu Benefit Recital Raises $30,000 for Foothill Fine Arts Program


Jon Nakamatsu, winner of the 1997 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, returned to his alma mater and thrilled a capacity crowd at a June benefit recital for Foothill’s Fine Arts Program. The concert raised $30,000, which will be used to purchase new musical instruments and for the refurbishment of the college’s concert pianos.

 

Early Morning Accounting Class Offered

Silicon Valley professionals can enroll in an early morning accounting class before their workday begins this quarter. Foothill will offer its ACCT 1A: Financial Accounting class Monday through Thursday, Sept. 25–Dec. 15, from 7–8 a.m.

This class is designed to meet the needs of working students who can attend class prior to starting their work day. Additional early morning accounting classes will be offered in Winter and Spring quarters.

A Galaxy of Astronomy Speakers at Foothill Lecture Series

The Silicon Valley Astronomy Lecture Series returns to Foothill this fall. The free lectures showcase world-renowned astronomers who speak about their work in everyday language.

Founded by Foothill Astronomy Instructor Andrew Fraknoi, the series is co-sponsored by Foothill College, NASA-Ames Research Center Astrobiology Project, Astronomical Society of the Pacific and the SETI Institute. In addition, students who register for the ASTRO 36: Special Projects in Astronomy course can earn one unit of college credit by attending all six lectures and completing a short paper.

Write the Winning Resume

Your path to your dream job starts with a winning resume. This fall, learn how to write the resume employers want to read by enrolling in a six-hour resume writing class at Foothill. You’ll learn how to create scannable and electronic resumes and discuss what employers expect to see in your professional portfolio. For convenience, you can enroll in the 1/2-unit CRLP 73: Effective Resume Writing course during afternoons or evenings. The course will be offered every three weeks through Dec. 15.

Be Your Own Boss

Start a Small Business

This fall, Foothill College offers a quick way to understand the basic strategies for launching and operating a successful small business. Enroll in the Small Business Series at the Foothill College Middlefield Campus in Palo Alto to learn how to create, plan and manage your own business.

Small business classes start the week of Sept. 25 and include BUSI 133A: Starting a Small Business; BUSI 133D: Small Business Feasibility; and BUSI 133F: Small Business Marketing Research Planning.

New Program - Foothill College Debuts Human Services Program

Foothill will debut its new Human Services Program when Fall Quarter classes get under way Sept. 25. Designed to address the critical shortage of qualified, trained social services workers in California, the new program will train students for employment as juvenile hall counselors, eligibility workers, human resources technicians, and drug and alcohol counselors.
