Math Center Helps Students Succeed

Students who need more help with Algebra instruction can take advantage of a supplemental lecture program to improve their understanding of this subject. Designed by Foothill Instructional Associate Rachel Mudge, Math RAPS (Rachel’s Afternoon Problem Solving) is designed to encourage students who mistakenly think they cannot “do” math.

Free one-on-one tutoring, including Math RAPS sessions, is available in the on-campus Math Center. Offering an inviting and comfortable place for learning mathematics, the center provides a nurturing environment designed to help students who are working on assigned homework or asking questions about unfamiliar math concepts. Students can use the center’s Macintosh computers to solve homework assignments that use Excel, Minitab, Word, Mathematica, Graphical Analysis and Geometer’s Sketchpad software applications. All Math Center tutorial services are provided by Foothill College math faculty and instructional associates.

During the academic year, Math Center hours are Monday–Tuesday, 8 a.m.–7:30 p.m.; Wednesday– Thursday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.; and Friday, 8 a.m.–2 p.m. For information, call (650) 949-7042.

New Coach for Foothill Forensics Team

Under the leadership of new Speech Instructor Lauren Popell, the team will compete in various debate and individual events at Bay Area colleges. Popell holds a bachelor’s degree from Bates College and master’s degree from Stanford University.
