Video Arts - Media Studies 2009-2010 |
PENDING STATE APPROVAL
The world loves the moving image. Little more than 100 years old, motion pictures are among our most popular and compelling art forms. Increasingly, video is where we turn for entertainment, information, education, and communication.
Video is a young medium that continues to evolve within its own dynamic language. Traditional storytelling coexists with emerging interactive narrative media. Television sitcoms have made way for video podcasts. Today, the Internet has created an international theater for the moving image where video can be downloaded and played on devices from the cell phone to high-definition television.
The primary focus of the Associate in Art degree is the the scholarly study of video and film. Students who complete the A.A. have a strong foundation in the language, history, culture, and aesthetics of the moving image. They are prepared to begin professional careers in a variety of media fields or transfer to a four-year university. Skills, career, and certificate of achievement are available.
