Math and Physics Shows
The Foothill College Mathematics Department invites local elementary and middle school students and their families to join in the fifth annual Let’s Play Math event. This year, we present some new tools. Come and play fun Math tools and observe interesting mathematical facts behind them in this free event.
Would you like to find your body’s golden ratio as you measure your height? Why is a honey comb hexagon-shaped? Which ball on the four slides will reach the bottom first if each ball starts rolling at the same time? What happens when you play pool on an elliptical table or a rectangular table?
Come and explore the answers to these questions and others. Guests will have the opportunity to play with mathematical toys and experience how fun math can be. Other activities include tangrams, origami, linker cubes, challenging math-related games, and more.
Each year the Physics Department at Foothill College puts on a show for the community suitable for the entire family. It is a series of fun, exciting demonstrations of the laws of nature. The show has grown from an audience of about 200 people in 2007 to over 25,000 by the end of 2013.
If you missed the physics show January or February of this year we will be presenting the same, exact show with the same bad jokes this September. Tickets are on sale now.
In January we will have a new set of performances. Stay tuned!
